Just this year, I was able to try out the famous Ya Kun Kaya Toast here in Manila. It was my first time to experience what a typical Singaporean breakfast is like. Of course, it would have been better if I’d get to experience it in Singapore. 😀
We have embraced “Think Local” when it comes to our choice of the food that we’re going to eat when we were in Singapore. Thus, we had kaya toast for breakfast everyday. We were able to try the Kaya Toast in a food court just beside our hotel (Hotel 81 Elegance), in Ya Kun Kaya (Bugis station) and in Toast Box.
Just like what I’ve mentioned in my previous Ya Kun Kaya Toast blog post, kaya toast is a toast that is served with coconut egg jam. In our experience in Singapore, the toast was spread with butter and coconut egg jam (kaya). It is best eaten with either a cup of tea or coffee. You can also eat your Kaya Toast with soft-boiled eggs which we did during our stay in Singapore. Toast Box didn’t break the shell of the eggs when it was served to us. Thus, if you are in a hurry, I think it would be best not to order the soft-boiled eggs at Toast Box.
Aside from breakfast, you can also eat a kaya toast as a snack. 😀
