Southern Manila Foodtripping: Mama Lou’s Italian Kitchen

Outside Mama Lou's

It was a warm Friday afternoon, specifically on a Good Friday, and we’re craving for decent food. We decided to head out to Southern Manila (Paranaque) to dine at Mama Lou’s. This was highly recommended by some of my Southern friends and so we decided to dig in. Mama Lou’s is located at Tropical Avenue in BF Las Pinas.

Mama Lou’s is originally a house converted into a restaurant which is why the place feels very homey. We were told that the place is usually packed with customers on a normal day so good thing that we went there on a Good Friday. We didn’t have to wait long!

Al fresco area of Mama Lou's - 1

The moment we entered the gate, it’s like we were transported to the countryside. The al fresco area is just beautiful. I would’ve wanted to dine there but it was very warm so we opted to dine indoors.

Spaghetti Seafood Olio at Mama Lou's

Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio PHP 298

We ordered the Italian basics: pasta, pizza and more. 🙂

For pasta, we had Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio because we love seafood and garlic! This immediately became one of my favorites. The pasta was al dente, garlic has an overpowering taste and the seafood were cooked just right.

Prosciutto Funghi Pizza at Mama Lou's

Prosciutto Funghi Pizza PHP 425

I fell in love with their pizzas! We ordered Prosciutto Funghi because I really love Prosciutto. All their pizzas are served with arugula leaves. How to eat it? Place the leaves on top of the pizza and roll it. (Yes, that’s we foodies roll! 🙂 What I like about their pizza is that it’s thin, just the real Italian pizza. The pizza is cooked in a wooden brick oven which gives a smoky flavor to the crust. Because I loved their pizzas, I decided to order another flavor for take away (Pizza Salcissia / garlic sausage). When I returned there 2 weeks ago, I ordered the Mama Lou’s Special. This is also a must try. It has Prosciutto, mangoes, balsamic cream.

Poutine at Mama Lou's

Bacon Poutine @ PHP 195

Bacon, cheese and fries smothered with gravy? This is a deadly appetizer but it’s worth the try. Your blood veins may call out for help if this is taken in one sitting. Better to share it with someone else than suffer a coma. 🙂

Friulana Salad at Mama Lou's

Fruilana Salad @ PHP 275

Fans of bacon are really going to love Fruilana salad. You can be healthy and still have bacon at the same time! This is definitely a favorite at first bite. Bacon is abundant (yey!) and it’s not grocery frozen bacon. The salad’s dressing is Italian Vinaigrette.

Mama Lou's Iced Tea

Mama Lou’s Iced Tea is home made and made of real tea unlike those which serve powdered iced tea which basically is made of sugar.

Inside Mama Lou's

Mama Lou’s food is unforgettable and I believe that it’s one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to which is not trying to be fancy-schmancy. People here can go as casual as they want to because it’s just in a residential area.
