The first time I heard about this restaurant, I got intrigued by its name – Goodfellas. I know it’s associated with the Italian mafia so I thought it was just another Italian restaurant. It was a public holiday when we decided to have the food tasting in Goodfellas. Although I live near Quezon City, it was quite hard to go there on a weekday. Glad that they accommodated us during the public holiday. We were with fellow food blogger, Dante Ward.
While we were on our way to the restaurant, I noticed that it wasn’t in the common restaurants area. It was actually near Judge Jimenez Street in Kamuning, a residential area. Yes, a residential area. The location of the restaurant was very odd but I guess it stands out. Let me tell you why as we go along with this blog post.
Let me start with the appetizers that we were able to experience. We actually had more than 2 appetizers which can already be the main dishes ;). We had the Gambino Family, Flamingo Wings, Gotti’s Cheese, Freshly Made Potato Chips and Caesar’s Salad.
Gambino Family (Gambas) @ Php 395
The Gambino Family is their version of Gambas – peeled prawns or shrimps cooked in garlic oil. This is usually spicy however Goodfellas was on the safe side on this dish. Their gambas wasn’t that spicy. I liked it though because of the rich garlic taste.
Flamingo Wings @ Php 220 solo, Php 395 to share
The Flamingo Wings is their version of Buffalo Wings. The wings were served with the traditional Blue Cheese dressing. The verdict? The spiciness level of the wings is just right.
Gotti’s Cheese @ Php 365
Crusted Mozzarella Sticks is already a common appetizer or pica-pica in bars or drinking joints however Goodfellas surprised me with these enormous Mozzarella stick. This is definitely a must try. Good to share with your family and friends.
Potato Chips @ Php 120
An old time favorite, the good old classic potato chips were served to us. They boast that their Potato Chips were freshly made. They were right, it was freshly done. 🙂
It’s very seldom that restaurants serve Caesar Salad from scratch. The dressing wasn’t something that was bought in the grocery, it was actually made from scratch – with the use of fresh eggs, mustard, lemon juice, etc. The egg actually gives a creamy feel in the palate. The last time I remembered that I had this kind of Caesar Salad was way back when the Hyatt Hotel in Baguio was still there. I loved the freshness of this salad. Two thumbs up on this one! They usually prepare a whole batch of homemade Caesar Salad dressing in their fridge. Be sure to ask the waiter if it’s available because they can’t store a lot of these, it might spoil.
Now we go to where they’re really good at – steaks and burgers.
Their version of Philly Cheese Steak was really good – it’s actually way better than Johnny Rockets’ Philly Cheese Steak! The buns were filled with thinly sliced beef and onions and oozing melted cheddar cheese. Mmmm, love it! Its paired with fried potatoes which tasted like Shingalings. 😉
One of the specialty steaks is the Santino’s – it’s 10 – 12 oz. US Certified Angus Rib Eye. It’s served with Mixed Vegetables and Rice Pilaf or Mashed Potatoes. What I liked about their steak is that it’s not too thick – actually about 3/4 inch thick. I asked my waiter to prepare it my way – medium rare. The knife slid its way through the beef effortlessly. I took a bite size into my mouth and enjoyed every bite of it. Rib eye steaks usually have some ligaments on them. I know the feeling when my steak has lots of ligaments, but their steak doesn’t have lots of it. I also learned that their steaks come from Snake River Farms, one of the best sources of Wagyu Beef in the world.
The Margherita Burger is made of Angus Burger infused with Mozarella and Cheddar Cheese served with Basil Nut Pesto, Roasted Tomato on an Oatie Bun. The burger patty is thick, 100 grams of pure Angus Beef.
They also serve their own iced tea. They change it every now and then. This tall glass is bottomless so gulp all you want!
Mount Everest dessert can give you the chills as if you’re in the highest part of the world. For ice cream lovers, this is really a must try. They don’t serve commercial ice cream. No revelation of who their supplier is but definitely, it’s not something that I’ve tasted commercially.
Dining in Goodfellas is a worthwhile experience. The food is something that you look forward to and imagining the experience I had when I first dined there gives me the giddy feeling. It is a place where you can enjoy good food in a not so commercial area. A brave move for the restaurant owners to build a restaurant at the middle of a residential area.
