Albay Food Tripping #5: Gasthof
Gasthof, the popular German restaurant in Boracay Island famous for their ribs, now has a branch in Legazpi, Albay. This was our first stop the moment we arrived in Legazpi last November. We just began our Legazpi city tour when we suddenly saw this opposite the Legazpi City Hall.
We only ordered 2 dishes when we were there: their famous ribs and German Pig Knuckles. It was brunch time so we’re not that too hungry yet. This was my first time to dine in Gasthof because I haven’t been to Boracay (could you imagine that???) and Karla recommended me to try the ribs. The ribs were tender and tasty. Though I wasn’t completely satisfied. It was pretty OK but it does not exceed the other ribs I’ve tasted in my life. For its price, it’s was satisfactory.
German Pig Knuckles
The German Pig Knuckles were like our local Crispy Pata. Like the ribs, it was also ok. The meat was very tender and tasty. It had a plateful of garlic mashed potatoes on the side. This can be shared by 2-3 people and it can pass as a pulutan.
Mashed Potatoes
What I liked about this place is that prices are very affordable. I think that is what they are known for aside from the ribs.
They will be opening (or is it already open?) a branch in Naga City, Camarines Sur and also in the Bicol Region. They also have a branch in A. Venue, Makati.

oh they have it in Bicol??? tried this in Bora and super love the ribs & chopsuey
yes, they have it in bicol @u8mypinkcookies
Nice food shots. How’d you find bicol? I mean in terms of culture, food, etc? Im currently on the momentum of reviewing my roots as a bicolano ( i grew up in manila but my dad was born and raised in tabaco) When you got there in Bicol what was the thing, food or something you were looking for?
When we went to Albay, we were really there to food trip. I love anything with coconut milk and I really love Bicol Express. Wanted to taste the real thing. The good thing in Albay was that the food there was very cheap, as well as internet. Hehe, we were at the internet cafe almost every night! Also, we wanted to see the Mayon Volcano up close.
Ate at Gasthof’s at Boracay. Ribs where very dry, and sadly mostly bones with very very little meat.
Best ribs at Boracay is at Hawiian Bar-B-Que at station 1. Ribs with rice and a drink would cost P300 to P400 per person, but it’s worth it. The ribs have a lot of meat, juicy and tender
Yeah me too, I didn’t really super enjoyed their ribs. It was OK but I could get much delish ribs from other restos.
I want to know if there is any muslim restaurant in legazpi. If there is please let me know.
